What I Wish I Knew Before Building My Everything Wardrobe
Ditch the Capsule Wardrobe—Here’s How to Build a Closet That Works for Every Moment of Your Life.
If I could go back and start from scratch, I would have done things very differently. Like many, I got caught up in the idea of a capsule wardrobe—minimal, neutral, and hyper-curated. But as I refined my style philosophy, I realized that a capsule wardrobe is a thing of the past. Instead, what you need is an everything wardrobe—a wardrobe that takes you through every moment, every place, and every aspect of life seamlessly.
1. Forget Capsule Wardrobes—Build an Everything Wardrobe
The problem with capsule wardrobes? They’re too restrictive. Life isn’t lived in a curated 10-piece collection. Instead of limiting yourself, build an everything wardrobe—a collection that’s fluid and functional, supporting your full range of experiences, from work meetings to spontaneous nights out.
2. Basics Are Overrated—Think Staples Instead
We don’t have an exclusivity clause with basics. You don’t need to fill your wardrobe with plain white tees and neutral blazers just because they’re “versatile.” In fact, the more you focus on basics, the more your wardrobe lacks personality. Instead, think of basics as staples—items that enhance what you already own rather than define your style.
For example:
A cotton white tee is great, but so is a well-loved graphic tee that reflects your personality.
A neutral blazer is functional, but so is a statement jacket that makes every outfit feel unique.
The goal is to choose staples that support and elevate your wardrobe rather than water it down.
3. The Only Way to Have Personal Style? Rewear What You Own
Personal style isn’t about constantly acquiring new pieces—it’s about how you rewear and reinvent what you already own. Repetition creates a signature look, a common thread that ties your outfits together and makes them feel authentic. The key is to build a wardrobe that excites you every time you open it, making rewearing a joy instead of a chore.
Final Thoughts
If I had known these things before rebuilding my wardrobe, I would have saved time, money, and frustration. An everything wardrobe isn’t about restriction—it’s about possibility. Stop chasing trends, stop overloading on basics, and start curating a wardrobe that reflects your life, not someone else’s aesthetic checklist.

🛑 ✍🏻overloading ✍🏻on ✍🏻basics - I have been challenging myself to add more personality pieces to my wardrobe and it is so much more fun to get dressed. 😍It’s a creative outlet for me! 🎨
Idk why I got into the rut of buying never ending basics— probably because it’s practical to think that these are the best value per use. But if styling is a priority then it value can also mean buying the personality pieces that we will be excited to wear as much as a basic. 🙃
Never thought of this way !! 👀 My mom is gonna be so upset she just started building her capsule wardrobe lol
