Why Your Wardrobe Isn’t Working — And What to Do About It
What every successful woman needs to know about her wardrobe
I am at the top of game in so many areas, but when it comes to my personal style, I don’t know where to start.
This is a sentiment I hear often from the women I work with. Women who, after years of trying to blend in, have dressed more masculine than they wanted—out of fear that dressing more feminine might cost them respect at work. The fear that standing out would overshadow their credibility.
For years, they’ve spent their hard-earned money on items they thought others expected of them. Pieces designed to make—dare I say—their boss feel more comfortable. Pieces that ticked boxes on someone else’s checklist.
The result? A disjointed wardrobe. Clothes that can only be worn one way. Items so far removed from who they truly are that they don’t even know where to begin.
But here’s the truth — when conformity no longer takes priority, and authenticity becomes the guide, something powerful happens.
Authenticity allows them to show up confident, poised, and commanding. It grants them the ability to own the room and earn the respect they deserve.
Every client I’ve worked with embodies this transformation. Nothing makes me prouder than hearing about their promotions, new roles, and growing families.
Just recently, during a check-in call, Kelly said it best:
“What I found interesting is that when I step into those bolder pieces, the ones I love without worrying about others’ opinions, I get tons of compliments. At my last team off-site, everyone said, ‘You’re always so fashionable.’ All props to you.”
We talked about how embracing her true style has changed how she shows up at work, boosted her confidence in her new role, and made getting dressed less of a struggle. She now builds outfits effortlessly and no longer lingers in front of the mirror.
So here’s the takeaway: consider this your permission to be unapologetically you. No matter your industry or your title. Make your own rules. Own your personal style.
P.S. Here are some of my favorite looks from Kelly’s summer lookbook with a brief peek into why I chose them. Cannot wait to see what we style for fall as she continues to lean in her personal style.
xx,
